Calling all hackers, developers and thinkers

Tired of not knowing what roads are open or closed and whether your route home is chocka-block with traffic? Come and play with some of the latest traveller information data released by the Recovery Agencies and build a journey planner to help you and your fellow citizens out. OpenHack Christchurch is a collaborative event that requires backend, frontend and mobile developers to work together to build a journey planning application for Christchurch that integrates the following data:

Directional Road Closures/Restrictions
Traffic Congestion and Flow Data

Technical Actvities

The event is built around a number of key activities that participants can work on throughout the day:

Take an XML datafeed and wrap a RESTful API around it and expose it with suitable end-points.
Deploy a routing service using Open Street Map/other and integrate directional road closures and traffic congestion data so that web/mobile apps can request the best route to get from Point A to Point B.
Work with/provide feedback on ECAN's routing service
Develop a prototype journey planning application that makes it easy for road-users to avoid road closures and congestion.

Due to the interdependent nature of some of the above activities, a degree of coordination will be required between groups. Organisers/participants will play a coordination role to bring everything together throughout the course of the day.

5pm - Pitch-time and De-brief

Throughout we will be sharing updates on how each group of developers is progressing and what help is needed.

Food and drink will be provided throughout the day.
